Google supercharges Gemini AI across its entire ecosystem

Google is rapidly expanding Gemini AI integration across its entire product ecosystem, unveiling new experimental features and rolling out AI-powered capabilities to millions of users worldwide as the company positions its artificial intelligence assistant as a central platform for all its services.

Gemini Introduces Experimental Agent Mode and Collaborative Features :

Google has begun testing three new experimental modes for Gemini, according to discoveries by Testing Catalog. The most significant addition is Agent Mode, which Google describes as capable of "autonomous exploration, planning, and execution". This feature, first teased at Google I/O, aligns Gemini with agentic workflows similar to ChatGPT, allowing the AI to handle multi-step tasks without constant user intervention.

Two additional experimental modes have emerged: Gemini Go, described as a way to "explore ideas together", which appears designed for collaborative ideation and may integrate with Google's Canvas platform, and Immersive View, promising "visual answers to your questions". While these features remain in testing phases, Agent Mode has received a dedicated icon, suggesting it may become a permanent feature.

The company has also launched Canvas, an interactive collaboration space that allows users to create, edit, and share documents and code in real-time with Gemini. The platform enables effortless document generation and refinement, with users able to highlight sections and request specific edits like tone or length adjustments. For developers, Canvas streamlines the coding process by allowing generation and preview of HTML and React code directly within the interface.

Global AI Mode Expansion and Agentic Capabilities :

Google announced on August 20 that AI Mode in Search is expanding to over 180 countries and territories, a massive rollout from its initial availability in the United States, United Kingdom, and India. The feature, powered by Gemini 2.5, enables users to ask complex, multi-step questions with natural language follow-ups directly within search results.

The expansion includes new agentic capabilities that allow AI Mode to take actions on behalf of users. Starting with restaurant reservations, the feature can process multiple constraints including party size, date, time, location, and cuisine preferences, then search across platforms like OpenTable and Resy to present curated booking options. This capability is currently available to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the United States through the Labs experimental program.

According to Google's official blog, AI Mode now offers personalized search results based on user preferences and past interactions. For dining-related queries, the system leverages previous searches, map activity, and conversations to provide tailored recommendations.

Android Interface Updates and Auto Integration :

Google has rolled out a redesigned pill-shaped overlay for Gemini on Android, replacing the previous rounded rectangle design. The new interface starts as a circle that expands into a wide pill with Google's signature four-color theme. The update is available in both beta (16.33) and stable (16.32) versions of the Google app.

Android Auto is receiving Gemini integration with enhanced location access capabilities. According to Android Authority analysis of version 15.1, Google has added code suggesting Gemini will be able to access users' "precise location" to improve navigation assistance. The integration includes expanded app categories and digital car key support for additional vehicle brands.

Federal Government Partnership :

In a significant enterprise move, Google secured a federal contract through the General Services Administration to provide "Gemini for Government" services to federal agencies for $0.47 per agency through 2026. The deal includes comprehensive AI tools, enterprise search capabilities, multimedia generation, and pre-built AI agents, building on Google's existing contract that provides Google Workspace to federal agencies at a 71% discount.

The partnership aligns with President Trump's America's AI Action Plan and positions Google against competitors like OpenAI and Microsoft in the government AI market. GSA Acting Administrator Michael Rigas emphasized that the agreement will help federal agencies "significantly transform their operations".

This comprehensive integration strategy demonstrates Google's commitment to making Gemini the central AI platform across all its services, from search and mobile interfaces to enterprise and government applications, as the company seeks to maintain competitive advantage in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
